Western Algarve in PortugalThe Western Algarve in Portugal has long been established as an all year round holiday destination, due to its excellent sunshine record. There is so much to do for the holiday maker. Long stretches of soft sandy beaches, water parks, theme parks and numerous golf courses. The Eastern Algarve is now becoming recognised in its own right. There is an excellent long stretch of beach that reaches to the Guadiana River and the border with Spain. This area still retains many small white washed fishing villages where you can sit outside a bar and watch the fishing boats bring in their catch of the day. About Tavira - Near Faro Tavira is a beautiful old town that is very conveniently situated being only 20mins from Faro airport. Tavira dates back to 2000bc and has 35 churches. There is a Roman bridge that stretches over the River Gilao. There is much to do in Tavira, numerous bars, restaurants, shops and interesting places to visit. The beach at Tavira Island being 4KM long, can be reached by ferry costing 1€ which run every 5 minutes. Within this area is the Ria Formosa natural park. About Cabanas Cabanas is a village situated 4km from Tavira. There are a variety of bars, and restaurants along the promenade with lovely sea views, some shops and supermarket. There is a railway station nearby which enables you to travel either to Vila Real to the east or Portimao to the west. There is also a bus service to Faro, Tavira, or Vila Real. A small tourist office is located in the village where you can book excursions to water parks, theme parks. Car hire is recommended though to fully appreciate the surrounding area and numerous leisure facilities available. Cabanas beautiful stretch of beach can be reached by a 2min ride in a small boat. Here there is a café, changing facilities and toilets. Sun beds and parasols can be hired. Golf in the Algarve and Costa de la LuzCabanas is ideally situated for the golf enthusiast as there is a choice of over 30 courses between the Algarve and Spain.
Ayamonte area information Ayamonte, a small Spanish town in the area known as The Costa de la Luz, the coast of light, a particular feature being the magnificent sunsets.
Come and experience the Ayamonte Carnival, in February, and the Feria in the middle of September, where the Ayamontians dress up in traditional costumes. Both are well worth seeing. The town has plenty of bars and restaurants dotted around the quaint narrow streets or the beautiful plazas richly decorated with ornate tiles.
Choose one of the many restaurants and enjoy a bottle of Rioja or jug of Sangria, as you taste either some locally caught fresh fish or prawns, which are an Ayamontian speciality. Another speciality not to be missed is the Jamón de Jabugo also known as Ibérico Ham. This ham is a speciality of the Huelva area, coming from the village of Jabugo in the Sierra de Aracena. This cured ham comes from pigs reared in the wild and fed on acorns; the ham has a very distinctive taste. Isla Canela “The Cinnamon Isle” Isla Canela is a development created with 4 and 5 star hotels, low rise apartments and an 18 hole golf course.
Six kilometres of golden sandy beaches, washed with beautiful blue Atlantic waves, a beach-lovers paradise. Overcrowded is not a word often associated with these beaches, even in the height of summer. The marina at Isla Canela presently has 230 berths, with plans in the pipeline to increase this to 800. Close to the Marina is the Commercial Centre with supermarkets, shops and an excellent range of bars and restaurants. Here you can sit and watch the many fishing boats returning home with their catch
Costa Esuri. Costa Esuri, situated a few kilometres from Ayamonte and close to the international bridge joining Spain and Portugal, is a new development, overlooking the river Guadiana. There are various types of holiday accommodation available here ranging from apartments, townhouses to villas. There is a golf club house and plans to open shopping centres and hotels plus a large marina. It is projected to become one of the largest leisure and residential developments in Spain
